The Foundation uses the term "Initiative" to communicate a health position or focus area integral to the long-term health improvements of the region. A list of our current initiatives along with their associated priority areas are provided below. Click on the individual initiative for more information.

Priority Areas 

Tobacco, alcohol, and illicit drug use will be eliminated among adolescents. A SMOKE FREE PASO DEL NORTE

The goal of A Smoke Free Paso del Norte is to have a comprehensive and coordinated approach to reduce tobacco use in the region.

Children and youth will be physically active and have proper nutrition for a healthy weight and a strong body. Children and youth will grow up in healthy family and social environments. Tobacco, alcohol, and illicit drug use will be eliminated among adolescents. Children, youth, and families will have access to health care, including access to mental health services. MAJOR GRANTS

The Major Grants Program is designed to improve health by providing increased community access to best, promising, and innovative practice programs and by helping regional agencies with operating support for advancement of the Foundation’s four health goals.

Children, youth, and families will have access to health care, including access to mental health services. STATE CHILDREN HEALTH INSURANCE PROGRAM (SCHIP)

To increase the enrollment of the SCHIP program and other public health insurance programs.

Children and youth will grow up in healthy family and social environments. TWO SHOULD KNOW

Healthy Human Sexuality Initiative aimed at improving the sexual health of all people in the region.
