Foundation awards grants to engage disconnected youth in the region

The Paso del Norte Health Foundation recently awarded eight grants for more than $655,000 under the Healthy Relationships Priority Area – IGNITE Initiative. The goal of the IGNITE initiative is to improve health outcomes of disconnected youth through participation in high quality out-of-school programs in the Paso del Norte region.
Funded organizations are:
Boy Scouts of America Yucca Council - $130,256.50 Unidos Prosperamos To recruit 100 new, disconnected boys in the far east El Paso and southwest New Mexico to become part of the Boy Scouts of America program.

As the sun sets on the west side of the Franklin Mountains, the number 20 illuminates from the sides of the Wells Fargo Building in Downtown El Paso. Myrna J. Deckert announced her retirement as CEO of the Paso del Norte Health Foundation. Now she’s looking forward to years of golf, travel and being with her children and grandchildren.

Offering comprehensive sexual education to youth in Ciudad Juárez

Teens talking directly to other teens is creating a healthy conversation around sexuality in Ciudad Juárez.
Using a peer-to-peer training model, the FEMAP Foundation is providing comprehensive sexuality education for 8,000 youth age 12 to 18 in primary and secondary schools in Juárez.

CEO retires from the Paso del Norte Health Foundation

Myrna Deckert, CEO of the Paso del Norte Health Foundation for the past eight years, announced her retirement Friday. The Health Foundation’s Board of Directors will begin a search for a replacement and Deckert will continue in her role until a successor is named.
